Black American collectables

The history of the US of A contains immigration of many ethnicities. It already started tens of thousands of years ago, when prehistoric Asian immigrants crossed the dry land that would later become the Bering Sea, and eventually spread out over the whole continent of North and South America. Their offspring would later become known as Native Americans. Then the Europeans came, occupying the whole continent in no time at all.

Very soon thereafter a disturbing part of American history began: the ages of slavery. Nowadays it’s difficult to understand the way of thinking of this era, but we are still confronted with it, in many ways. The presence of the African-American population in the US is very prominent nowadays: the nation has come a long way, even to the extend that at the moment I write this, a Black American is running for president! Yes, African-American history in America has changed (tremendously|for the good}, which sort of restores ones faith in humanity.

However, there are still many remains of the era of Black enslavement and oppression. Presently many of those have become collectable parts of Afro-American history. Under the general lable Black Americana those objects are often collected. Sometimes by African-Americans who want to preserve part of their personal history in the form of African-American memorabilia, but also by other ethnicities who see them als valuable tokens of a time that was strongly different from our own, and that must never be forgotten.

Among these Black Americana or collectables are every day objects like kitchen utensils, but also originals or replicas of objects from the slave period itself. Many documents about this era can be found, and indeed should be studied. African-American memorabilia is a field of interest that reminds us all of how life should not be, and by keeping this reminder in view we contribute to better consciousness of African-American history.

Installing a Drip Irrigation System

Jun 05

If you are looking for ways to keep your garden watered without wasting too much time and money, you have probably gone through a lot of options in your mind. Maybe you have considered a sprinkler, a hose, or a good old-fashioned watering can. All of these methods might be convenient, but most of the time you will end up wasting water on plants that do not need any more. If you live in a drought stricken area like I do, you know that every bit of water counts. I ended up getting a drip irrigation system. I have not regretted this decision at all.

When you install a drip irrigation system, you can choose one of two varieties: above ground and below ground. The above ground version drips small amounts of water continuously onto the ground, and allows it to soak in such as the 4 pot wilma system self watering grow kit. It is all regulated from a pressure controller, which ensures that the water just comes out at a drip instead of a spray or a stream. These pressure regulators are very inexpensive. The whole drip system can be set up with a pressure regulator and a garden hose with holes poked in it (although it is ideal for you to get a pipe designed for this type of use, I have found that the hose method works acceptably).

The underground system is a bit more of a pain to install and maintain. But if you are really into the aesthetic aspect of your garden and do not want any visible watering system, then you might consider it worth it. It is essentially the same as the above ground version, only a small trench is dug for the hose or pipe prior to any planting. This allows the water direct access to the roots for the most watering efficiency. Plus, you can impress your neighbors by having a beautiful garden without ever going outside to water it! They will be baffled.

To choose between the two systems, you need to take several things into account. Do you have the same plant layout year round? If it is always changing, you probably will not want to bury your hose. It can be a pain to dig it up and re-align it with all your new plants every year or so. Even if your plant layout never changes, you need to consider how much you really mind seeing a hose in your garden. If it really bothers you to the extent that you are willing to work for a few hours to get rid of it, then by all means bury it. But otherwise I would suggest staying above ground if for nothing else than the convenience of repairing and rearranging.

One of the main advantages of the drip irrigation system is its efficiency. Instead of spraying large amounts of water willy-nilly like a garden hose does, it makes the most of your precious water by putting it exactly where it is needed. It can also provide your garden with constant watering, instead of just having to go thirsty whenever you are not around to water it.

So if you are looking for an easy, cheap, convenient, and efficient alternative watering method, you should go out to the gardening store today and purchase the necessary items to install a drip irrigation system. I think you will be surprised at how much easier it is to maintain a garden after you have it.

Teaching Your Dog to Behave

Jun 05

Posted: under Uncategorized.

You’ll witness ill-mannered, disobedient dogs everywhere. They are the dogs whose owners continue tugging at their leash, yelling at them to be good. A disobedient dog doesn’t become that way by itself. Disobedient dogs are the product of negligent dog owners because they have not taken the time to provide their dog obedience training. Obedience training is a way for owner and dog to learn to connect with each other successfully. Skip this article and learn about house training a dog

While a dog owner can accomplish obedience training by him or her self, many recommend that behavior training is a task best left to a skilled dog behavior trainer. Nevertheless, this doesn’t mean that the dog owner shouldn’t engage in the process. He or she must support the things that the dog has learned during behavior training.

Locate a dog obedience school where you live or obtain a video program so you are able to follow along. The instructions offered in obedience school generally include you and your dog. You may be able to make plans for the trainer to come to your home and perform the obedience class there. Many trainers think that training the dog in a location where it is most familiar can be helpful.

Whether you opt to teach your dog yourself, buy some videos, have a professional trainer come to your house or take your dog to obedience school, remember the following things:

1. Enjoyable

Just because you choose to place your dog in behavior training doesn’t mean that all the fun is removed. Keep in mind that a dog has the intellectual aptitude of a two-year-old kid so your dog would not really realize why he is being taught. You can get your dog to react to commands throughout behavior training by incorporating an element of fun into it. For instance, praise your dog whenever he/she exhibits proper behavior. Treats can also be given, though this would mostly depend on the trainer.

2. Consistency

Consistency is an essential factor in obedience training. A simple instance of consistency is this: if you don’t want your dog to lay on the area rug, do not praise him when he lays on it today and then scold him when he does the same act tomorrow. In obedience training, even the littlest things count. Your dog wants to learn what is acceptable to do and what he isn’t permitted to do. This, of course, depends on your consistency.

3. Behavior Training Instructor/Trainer

Don’t entrust obedience training to the initial trainer you meet with. Spend some time selecting the trainer for your dog. It is important that the trainer’s qualities and temperament fit together suitably with that of your dog’s. Talk to the trainer and get a feel for how he/she is around dogs. He /She must be competent and be able to deal with your dog.

4. Recommendations

If you choose to take your dog to behavior school, ask for recommendations. Don’t go to the first behavior school you see in the yellow pages. Speak to other dog owners or even to your dog’s doctor.

5. Charges

Look at the expenses and other services being offered by an obedience school prior to signing up. Behavior schools have various charges and the services they offer tend to vary. Do not go with a behavior school simply because it is the cheapest. Think about other factors such as track record, the services they offer and the kind of dog trainers they have.

6. Training Methods Used

Before pledging yourself and your dog to a behavior training school, ask which techniques the school utilizes to train dogs. If you are not comfortable with a trainer, move on to the next behavior training school. You need to give your dog the finest obedience training possible therefore take your time making a decision.

If you want to experience a pleasant connection with your canine friend, invest in behavior training. You and your dog will be much happier and you will get to spend more pleasurable times with him/her. Make sure you take the time to learn more about dog home behavior training

East Coast Destinations for Pricey Vacations

If you feel the urge to explore, why not splurge?  And why not spend it all exploring the Pacific East Coast?  A full wallet will get you to a whole lot of places and plenty of things to see, hear, feel, taste and experience.  Here are some of the South Carolina tourism vacations you might want to take in the Coast:

White water rafting

For the very adventurous and those seeking thrill rides, try shooting the rapids on Dead or Kennebec rivers and exchanging less-than-deadly paintball firepower in the forests of Maine.  Packages are usually offered as day-long trips and it costs only from around $115 to $160 per person, a sumptuous lunch included.

Nantucket luxury beach hotel

Massachusetts vacations
are wonderful! So there’s a huge crowd vying for the same spot on the beach as you?  Stay away from the madding crowd and head off for a pricey vacation at the Cliffside Beach Club.  Your accommodation will allow you to open your front door and walk directly on the beach, unhampered by the other sunburned bodies.

All modern luxuries are included in the package including Wi-Fi access for those who can’t not get connected and flatscreen TV, in case you need to know what’s going on in the world outside.  Pools are heated and their hydrotherapy hot tubs are huge enough to fit a family of five, with plenty of room to move.  Accommodations cost from a low of $450 a night and around $3,150 a week.

Butler beach

Newport, Rhode Island is famous for its scenic beaches.  If you want a pricey (and lazy) beach vacation that offers plenty of privacy and laid-back pleasure, try the Chanler, located at Cliff Walk.  If you’re with your significant other, hire a beach butler for only $85 and let him chauffeur you to the beach of your choice.  Sit back and take in the view – your butler will take care of everything for you.  At its low end, this will cost you around $600 a night.  High-end accommodations are charged at around $1,300 a night.

Get deserted

So you’ve always dreamed of being cast away on a desert island.  Although the desert island part requirement isn’t met, you’ll find that a stay at Chanterelle Island will more than make up for it.  The perfect Maine vacation, at just 12 acres, the island is perfect for a private getaway (no, you don’t rent just a cottage, you rent the whole island), quite fitting if you simply want to get ‘lost’.

The amenities are far from shabby, however because you can go kayaking, boating or even play a game of badminton and croquet.  There are no televisions, though and forget about Wi-Fi connections.  You’re here to get lost, right?  This is one pricey vacation you’ll want to take if you can spare $5,000 a week.

How about a cruise?

If travel by sea is a preference and you would like to include a few places in Canada for your itinerary, try a cruise vacation to explore the New England Coast.  There are several cruise lines that offer ultra-luxurious cruises that tread the water from Maine to Halifax or Quebec.  The journey is as dramatic as the destination, you’re relaxed and pampered as you take in the sites, the history and the culture.

Cruises that include the New England Coast generally have five ports, lasts from 11 to 14 days, depending on the cruise and the ship.  Land tours are guided and you can opt to dine on board the ship or in your current port of call.
